Would you like to get involved in The Works?

Current voluntary vacancies

Have you got what it takes to lead Twyford Waterworks

back to steam?

Twyford Waterworks Trust is a totally voluntary organisation which aims to restore Twyford Waterworks back to its original splendour. The Waterworks, which is set in the South Downs National Park just south of Winchester, is unique in having its original steam boilers and pumping engine, the 1930s additional Diesel pumping engines, a set of Lime kilns and the water softening process, which tells the whole story of water extraction. It also remains an important operational site for Southern Water.

Twyford Waterworks Trust is currently working with Heritage Lottery Fund on an ambitious Return to Steam restoration project and now has a vacancy for a Volunteer Chief Steam Engineer to help to bring this project to fruition.

Do you want to be part of the team which puts the fire back into Twyford?

Reporting directly to the Trust chairman, you will have the specialist skills and knowledge to operate and maintain our Babcock & Wilcox water tube boiler, and Hathorn Davey triple expansion steam engine. Working with volunteers, paid contractors and members of the Trust’s project team, the role initially will be to oversee the practical aspects of bringing the boiler and the steam pumping engine back to working order, and ultimately to organise and take responsibility for the steam operation at Open Days and other events.  A full understanding and practical experience of steam operation, and experience of training & leading volunteers, is essential and experience of working or volunteering at a heritage site or centre is desirable.

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of a growing visitor attraction.

Please contact the Trust chairman, Graham Feldwick on 01929 552973 for an informal chat or email chairman@twyfordwaterworks.co.uk for more details and to request an application form.

Closing date for applications: February 16th 2012
